Scripture Passage: “Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.”       Psalms 65:11

Dear Friends,

May I be one of the first to wish you and your family a Happy New Year. There is no doubt that this year is going to be one of challenges and blessings. The challenges keep us humble and the blessings keep us thankful. A life without challenges would be boring. A life without blessings – well – would be impossible. I am not by nature a fatal pessimist, but neither am I an unrealistic optimist. I believe in a new day and with it comes the possibility of things getting better. We serve an awesome God who is the Sovereign of the Universe and is capable of accomplishing the impossible. He also is able to take even our difficult life events and use them for our good and spiritual maturity. The problem I have is all the storms occurring around me. In the midst of these storms the security and unity of our nation is crumbling right before my eyes. The world seems to be “going to Hell in a handbasket,” and no one appears to care.  The church can attract a crowd, but there seem to be fewer committed Christians than ever before. There was a time when Believers were surrendered to Christ’s Lordship, now the majority of the people I encounter are caught up in serving their own God (themselves) and use the Lord and His church when it is convenient. The things once thought to be sacred (the church, marriage, and the family) are constantly under attack and must be guarded and protected wearing the full armor of God. With everything that is wrong, the question is, is anything right? I’m glad you asked.

The last time I checked, God was still on the throne. He is Sovereign. (The boss) He is Omnipotent. (All powerful) He is Omniscient. (All knowing) He is Omnipresent. (Everywhere at the same time)   He is Supreme. (There is no one above Him)   ENOUGH SAID.   Jesus Christ is still Lord and Savior. He is the one responsible for all important decisions. All I have to do is find out what He says and then move forward. I am not called upon to figure IT out. I am called upon to listen and then be obedient. He will take care of IT. He is a very present friend. He has promised to never leave me nor forsake me. When everyone else tucks tail and runs, He will stand firm beside me. He delivered me from my sins of the past. He is delivering me from the sins of today. He will deliver me from my sins of tomorrow. I no longer worry about losing my salvation. I turned that over to Him a long time ago and I am as secure as a baby in a loving mother’s arms. We still have the good news of the Gospel. The same answer to our life’s problems remain the same. The questions change constantly, but the answer stays the same. Jesus is right for whatever is wrong in your life. The time tested Book still has the directions for living and all the answers for life’s problems. The Church is still The Church. The group of Born Again Believers still make up the family, not membership, of The Church. The Church is still the Savior’s plan for evangelizing the world. One person, or family, is NOT the Church. They are part of the church and make up its membership, but it takes everyone working together to make up The Church. We need each other. Finally, (not because this is all, but because I must quit,) this New Year is not all I have to look forward to.   It is only part of the journey that leads to my final destination. This could be the year that I finally make it Home. It seems that Heaven is a little closer and my vision a little clearer than it has ever been before. So for me to live is Christ, but to die is gain. Whether I live or die, I am His.

In Christ,
Pastor Johnny
