Scripture Passage: “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord ponders the hearts.”   Proverbs 21:2
Dear Friends,
Did you ever stop to consider what God KNOWS about you? In every person there dwells the best and worst of humanity. There is a part of us that wants to do what is right and accomplish that which is good. There is also a darker, more sinister side,  that wants revenge and desires to be judge, jury and executioner. Robert Louis Stevenson wrote a novella in 1886 that he entitled the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It has aroused interest and created inspiration for many horror films. The intriguing fact is that psychologist have medical terms for that today and have deemed schizophrenia and bi-polarism as mental disabilities that a person cannot be held accountable for. In Jesus’ day they just called it being possessed with the devil. If Jesus had not set the demoniac of Gadera free from the demons that possessed him, he would have lived the remainder of his life harming himself and others. Scripture says that no man could tame or control him. When Jesus set him free, the neighbors found him clothed and in his right mind. They were more afraid of the transformation that had taken place than the crazy man they knew before.
In my opinion there is a more dangerous villain than the ones mentioned above. Jesus called them false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.   (Matthew 7:15)   They wear a cloak of Christianity, but inwardly they are rotten to the core. They can use the right terminology. They can sing the right kind of songs. They give the appearance and perception of having the anointing of the Spirit but upon closer examination the spirit is not holy. People are enamored with their words and caught up in their charisma. By the time they figure out they are in trouble it is too late and the damage has been done. Our children have been indoctrinated and our culture impacted. Laws have been passed and people put into positions of authority who call themselves Christian that exhibit nothing of the morals and character of Christ.  We have slowly accepted the culture change without even realizing what was taking place and what was once considered abnormal is now considered the norm. How did this happen? Every man did what was right in their own eyes. (Judges 17:6)
I am afraid that our problem is not so much that people do not know the difference between right and wrong as it is that they do not care. The person who has gone so far as to ignore  morality and basic laws of nature no longer has a conscience that can be touched by common sense. God has simply given them over to their own reprobate mind. (Romans 1:28)   The reference In Judges 17:6 states that all of this came about because of a lack of leadership. There was a lack of leadership in the home that spilled over into the church which spilled over into the nation. When there is a lack of leadership, people do what is right in their own eyes. When people do what is right in their own eyes, a state of anarchy exists and humanity destroys itself. The only thing that spares civilization from annihilation is the remnant that refuses to bow down to the degredation of the masses. They remain true to the heart of God and regardless of what others do, they continue doing what is right according to God’s Word. The result is a revival back to God and the blessing of experiencing a new beginning. Don’t give up. Don’t give out. Don’t give in. The Lord ponders the heart and knows those who are his.
In Christ,
Pastor Johnny
